Portland Eats

In a city with more than 600 food trucks you can pretty much find anything your little heart desires. Burgers with truffle oil and caramelized onions,  Hawaiian noodle bowls, and fresh tacos are just a few of the amazing things we tried at food carts during my trip. Portland is one of the coolest cities in terms of their food, breweries, and coffee shops. Which is why I think I would fit right in there 😉

For my first food truck experience, Thomas took me to the Hawthorne district. There’s a cute little area where 20 something food trucks are clumped together. At night it’s really cool because you can sit at the tables under the lights in the trees! But obviously a majority of the food trucks are in downtown Portland where you can find seriously anything you want 🙂

Since I worked at World of Beer, I know that a lot of great breweries are out of the Portland area. Widmer Brothers, Rogue, Hair of the Dog, and Full Sail are a few of my favorites, but I only had the time to visit Rogue. As you can see from it’s name, Rogue makes some of the coolest, funkiest brews. I love the Hazelnut Brown Nectar, Shakespeare Oatmeal Stout, and the Mocha Porter. Thomas isn’t a dark beer drinker, but while we were at Rogue I tried breaking him out of his shell 😉

Something I didn’t know until I visited Portland is how big the coffee culture is!! You don’t go to Starbucks when you’re in Portland. There’s a quaint coffee shop on every corner cranking out some of the best espresso. I felt so stupid when I went into this one snobby shop lol. I ordered a caramel macchiato expecting to get a huge version like I do at Starbucks, but instead I got a tiny little delicious shot of espresso haha. I pretended to the barista that I knew what I was talking about…but I had no clue.

One of the things you have to do if you visit Portland is VOODOO DONUTS!! The decor is awesome with creepy coffins everywhere and voodoo dolls hanging on the walls. All the doughnuts are delicious and have crazy names like cock-n-balls and old dirty bastard lol.

It’s safe to say that Portland is pretty awesome. And guess what….I’m probably moving there mid-February! Stay tuned 😉
